Commission settlement, governed end to end.
An energy utility settled sales commissions in spreadsheets across six business units. We built one engine that calculates every payout, checks it before release and keeps the record of how each number was reached.
Clients are not named, and identifying details are withheld or changed to protect their confidentiality. Each case illustrates the work rather than giving an exact account of it.
What the old way cost them.
Each cycle took 5 to 7 days of spreadsheet work across six business units. Disputes came in by email, and each one was settled by email.
- 5–7 days in spreadsheets
- Disputes settled by email
- Six business units, settled by hand
- One engine for every payout
- Anomalies flagged before release
- Disputes handled in the system
What the system does, outcome by outcome.
- One engine calculates every rep’s commission from weighted goals.
- Unusual payouts are flagged before release.
- Reps file disputes in the system with a reason, and each correction is recorded before and after.
- Each cycle goes to the business supervisor, verification and human resources in turn, and stops while a dispute is open.
- Any paid cycle can be rebuilt, payout by payout.
- Reps check their own figures in a self-service portal.
Where AI works, where people decide.
Rules
The commission calculation and the anomaly checks are fixed rules, so the same inputs always give the same payout.
Predictions
Nothing here is predicted. Every payout comes from rules a person can check.
Generation
Agents write a briefing for each cycle and answer questions about it in plain language.
People decide
Supervisors, verification and human resources approve each cycle. People resolve every dispute.
How it’s governed. Every step on record.
Governance here rests on the approval chain and the audit trail. No cycle is released while a dispute is open, and the record shows who approved what.
- The person who prepares a cycle never approves it.
- Each approval step stops while any dispute is open.
- The audit log cannot be edited, and it rebuilds any released payout.
What the system does every day.
- Every payout is calculated the same way.
- Anomalies are flagged before release.
- Disputes are settled in the system.
- Any paid cycle can be rebuilt.
